To commemorate 120 years since Tarmac’s founder Edgar Hooley first perfected how to make road surfaces stick, the company’s illustrious history and its work on iconic infrastructure and construction projects is being marked with a special ‘through the years’ showcase being hosted across the business’ social media channels.

When thinking about the journey to net zero construction in the UK, many people’s first thoughts are focused on cutting carbon in manufacturing and materials processes. While this will be integral, delivering a net zero industry will also require a fully decarbonised, multi-modal transport sector.   

Positive progress is being made across industry sectors in laying the groundwork for the UK’s 2050 net zero delivery target. However, a number of barriers and obstacles still lie in the way of construction projects when it comes to tackling the carbon challenge.
