Earlier this year, Tarmac provided a donation of £100,000 to Bolsover District Council towards the construction of a brand-new Heritage and Wellbeing Centre in Creswell, Derbyshire.
The £3 million centre, just a few miles from Tarmac’s Whitwell Quarry, was officially opened in April 2023. The centre includes a 27-station gym, group exercise studio, sports hall, caving experience, soft play centre and café.
In addition to the significant donation from the Tarmac Landfill Communities Fund, the project received funding from Bolsover District Council, Elmton-with-Creswell Parish Council, the County Council, Viridor, Big Local and Bolsover Partnership.
Dannika Bannon, manager of Tarmac’s Whitwell Quarry, said: “The Creswell Heritage and Wellbeing Centre is such an important project for the local community to connect and keep healthy. I’m so proud that we could play a part in making it possible, with a £100,000 donation from the Tarmac Landfill Communities Fund.
“Like most other team members working at Whitwell Quarry, I live in the local area, so I’m also really looking forward to returning with my family to use the soft play area and other facilities at the centre.”
Local councillor for Elmton-with-Creswell, Duncan McGregor, said: “Tarmac is an integral part of our community, providing employment for many local residents, so it was very fitting they provided us with a grant to help us achieve our ambition of opening the new Creswell Heritage and Wellbeing Centre for the benefit of our local communities.
“They are always very supportive of what we are trying to achieve in the Parish and I look forward to this positive relationship continuing for years to come. The opening of the new centre is just the start as we are keen to develop the area around it to include more leisure pursuits and opportunities such as a new MUGA and running/training track for local people to enjoy, keep fit and stay healthy.”
Through the Tarmac Landfill Communities Fund, Tarmac donates around £1 million each year to community projects UK wide. The fund is open to applicants who meet the criteria for projects delivering community benefit. For more information, visit www.entrust.org.uk or email [email protected]
