International Women’s Day 2021 is here. As we mark what today stands for globally, we recognise in particular all the talented women who work in the mineral products, construction and infrastructure industries across the UK.
Our ambition is to foster and celebrate a fair and supportive culture, that promotes opportunities for all and attracts and retains women. This International Women’s Day, we celebrate the many achievements and successes of the women in our business and across the industry ‒ as well as the increasing diversity of all our people.
In delivering our inclusion and diversity agenda business wide, we continue to drive forward further improvements in our policies, procedures and culture. This has included the successful launch of our new employee communities earlier this year.
These virtual networks are safe spaces in which to share ideas, concerns or skills, and are open to all employees who identify as members of a community or allies.
Our dedicated women’s network (also known as Female Voice) is co-chaired by Abbie Lloyd, assistant project manager, and Katherine Evans, geotechnical manager. Its executive sponsor is Mark Wood, regional managing director, materials ‒ South.
Mark explains his support for the community and commitment to diversity and inclusion at Tarmac. He said: “As a father to two teenage daughters, I thought about how I would feel if they were being discriminated against, or if they were not given the opportunities afforded to men.
“Sponsoring the recently launched women’s community in Tarmac helps me to better understand how we can continue to make the business more inclusive and to be able to directly influence and accelerate the changes we need to make.”
Watch our new ‘We are women’ film featuring real employees and dedicated to the amazing women who work alongside us. Keep an eye out for women and allies from across the business striking the #ChooseToChallenge pose ‒ the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day.
A very happy International Women’s Day from everyone at Tarmac.
