Settle Swimming Pool, in North Yorkshire, has been renovated thanks to a donation of £50,000 from the Tarmac Landfill Communities Fund.
The community swimming pool – originally built in 1970s – was in need of major repairs, requiring additional funding. With the Tarmac Landfill Communities Fund contribution, the pool has now been successfully renovated, with changing rooms also modernised, a reception area extended and a new café and multi-use wellbeing centre added, called fitSpace.
Mike Smith, trustee at Settle Area Swimming Pool, said: “The 20-metre pool remains at the heart of the building with locals and visitors commenting that it looks like a brand-new centre.
“I am also pleased to tell you that we will acknowledge Tarmac’s contribution to the project on the plaque to mark this event.”
Pat Taylor, chair of the pool trustees, said: “We are delighted to be able to re-open the pool. Our supporters and volunteers have waited a long time for this moment. We are grateful for all the support we have been given and especially to Sport England, Craven Council, Tarmac and the other major funders.”
Lea Lambert, quarry manager at Tarmac’s Dry Rigg Hardstone Quarry, said: “We’re delighted that the donation from the Tarmac Landfill Communities Fund has been able to support the extensive renovations and modifications at the Settle Swimming Pool. It’s a fantastic facility at the heart of the local community and the refurbishment will enable it to keep bringing enjoyment to many people in the years ahead.”
