Colchester and East Essex Cricket Club is no longer stumped by limited facilities, following the completion of a much-needed renovation project.
An award of £44,150 from the Tarmac Landfill Communities Fund has helped to facilitate a redesign of the club’s 1970s pavilion building, which is used to host players and can be hired for private functions or community events.
The refurbished pavilion, which also received funding from contributors including Colchester Borough Council, Sport England and Essex and Southend Sports Trust, now boasts a new changing block and improved welfare facilities. In addition, new external windows and doors, disabled access and a terraced area will ensure that the club facilities can be enjoyed by the entire community.
Andrew Kennedy, Colchester and East Essex Cricket Club chairman and project lead, said: “This project has enabled the cricket club and its facilities to become more accessible to a far greater range of the community, all year round. Following the upgrade, we’re looking forward to hosting more social and recreational events for the local community, ensuring our long-term future.”
Alan Everard, Tarmac’s head of strategic planning (south), said: “Together with the funding partners, we’re extremely proud to be part of the Colchester and East Essex Cricket Club pavilion redesign project. Its completion marks a new era for the club – we look forward to seeing cricketers and members of the community alike benefitting from this fantastic facility in the years to come.”
Through the Tarmac Landfill Communities Fund, Tarmac donates around £1 million each year to community projects UK wide. The fund is open to applicants who meet the criteria for projects delivering community benefit. For more information, visit www.entrust.org.uk or email [email protected]
