The Mayor of Gateshead, Councillor Jill Green, has opened a new asphalt one stop shop to provide those working in road construction and repair projects with specialist building materials.
Asphalt2Go Gateshead, which is owned by the UK’s leading construction solutions company Tarmac, will provide companies, councils and contractors working on building or repairing roads, motorways, driveways, cycle paths, pavements and car parks with instant access to ready made asphalt and asphalt related materials.
The drive through venture at Gateshead East Industrial Park in South Shore Road (which is easily accessible via the A184 Felling bypass) features hot box technology to enable asphalt, the material used in 95% of UK roads, footpaths, playgrounds, cycle ways and car parks, to be stored at the correct temperature for immediate use in Gateshead and Newcastle and the surrounding area.
The Mayor of Gateshead, Councillor Jill Green, said: “We’re delighted that Tarmac has chosen to open up this new facility in the east of Gateshead, providing the council and others with access to heated asphalt quickly and without fuss. This new venture is ideally located to help local businesses access this material which will help meet the daily challenges faced by construction professionals.”
Tarmac’s Area Director for Aggregates & Asphalt, John Riley, added: “We are very excited about opening our new Asphalt2Go site in Gateshead. It underlines our commitment to providing a convenient supply of local material which will help support the local council and other customers to deliver surface repair and construction activity with greater ease.”
The new site is one of a network of 36 collect asphalt facilities across the UK owned by Tarmac, providing quick and flexible access to material as well as contractor tools and equipment.
