Senior leaders from across the highways industry, including Tarmac and Highways England, joined forces for an event focusing on diversity and inclusion best practice.
Sponsored by Tarmac and industry partners, the ‘Road to inclusion’ event saw members of the Highways England Supplier Diversity Forum meet virtually for a day of discussion and workshops on accelerating workforce inclusion and diversity.
The forum was founded in 2016 and is made up of 250 member organisations from across the UK highways supply chain. Together, its representatives are committed to driving sector change and collaboration on equality, diversity and inclusion engagement and activity.
The recent event featured sessions led by senior industry leaders, including Malcom Dare, executive director – commercial and procurement for Highways England, and Lizi Stewart, managing director (UK transport) for Atkins.
Louise Houston, head of inclusion & diversity for Tarmac, added: “We’re hugely proud to be part of this event and to demonstrate our commitment to embedding diversity, inclusion and belonging within our own business, as well as the wider sector.
“We know that we are stronger together and that collaboration is essential to create a more inclusive and diverse industry. As we’ve seen today, engaged leaders and passionate, well-informed employees are behind the change – which will ultimately benefit the highways customer and the communities in which we’re proud to operate.”
Attended by some 200 employees from across Highways England Supplier Diversity Forum businesses, the event was held virtually and facilitated by Tarmac in collaboration with forum members.
