South Wales Central Member of the Senedd, Joel James, recently visited Tarmac’s Aberthaw cement plant for the first time.
Mr James learnt about the cement making process at Aberthaw, as well as finding out more about Tarmac’s operations across the UK.
He was particularly interested to hear about the company’s Net Zero commitments and how the business plans to achieve them.
Commenting on the visit, Stuart Escott, plant manager at Aberthaw, said “It was a pleasure to welcome Mr James to the plant and to show him how we operate on a day-to-day basis.
“It is important to us that we work with policy makers to help them understand the challenges our industry is facing and what we are doing to tackle them. Aberthaw Cement Plant is a major employer in his Senedd region, and I am grateful for the support he expressed to us. We look forward to welcoming Mr James to the plant again in the future.”
Reflecting on his visit, Joel James MS said “I was delighted to be invited to visit Tarmac Aberthaw and to meet some of the team there. It is not until you get out on site that you appreciate the scale of the operation and the importance of it to local employment and the national economy.
“Cement is often taken for granted, yet it is literally the foundations for our modern built environment. The cement plant at Aberthaw has been in our community for over 100 years and is in safe hands with Tarmac. I wish them well as they face up to the challenges ahead.”
Mr James was elected to the Welsh Senedd at last year’s Welsh Government elections.
