Employees at Tarmac’s Mountsorrrel marked International Women’s Day with talk from a special guest speaker, local MP Jane Hunt.
The slogan for this year’s event is #EachforEqual, which is represented with horizontally placed arms symbolising the equal sign.
MP Hunt talked to the team about how challenging her journey to becoming an MP had been and how difficult it was, and still is, to become a female MP in a strongly male dominated Parliament. Jane succeeded at her fifth attempt and emphasised the importance of persistence and never giving up.
Mountsorrel Quarry currently employs 11 women with job titles, ranging from Weighbridge Operative, Facilities and Compliance Manager, Strategic Planning to Performance Manager and Sand Plant Manager.
Gemma Bettoney-Bramhall, Asphalt and Load-out Manager for Mountsorrel Quarry, said: “I’m really proud of all the women we have working at Mountsorrel Quarry. The number of women working on site has nearly doubled over the last twelve months and we are very keen to continue to further increase this number.
“We have an extremely wide variety of roles available – from front-line operatives and management positions to being out and about on the quarry or in the offices. We are looking towards developing flexible working initiatives to encourage even more women to join our business.”
