National Apprenticeship Week 2024: Myth busters

February 5, 2024

Today marks the very start of National Apprenticeship Week, which runs from 5 to 11 February 2024 and is an opportunity for the education and skills sector to celebrate the achievements of apprentices around the country and the positive impact they make to communities, businesses, and the wider economy.

To kick things off, here are three common misconceptions when it comes to apprenticeships.

  1. Myth buster one: Our apprenticeships aren’t just for 16 to 24-year-olds.

We welcome apprentices of ALL ages. We also offer many different levels of education, including degree qualifications.

  1. Myth buster two: This one might come as a shock, but we don’t just lay roads, we do much more!

Our apprenticeships are available across both our operational business and our support functions. Roles span IT, finance and HR, as well as in materials production, land management and quarrying, to name just a few.

  1. Myth buster three: You won’t be making the rounds of tea… there will be plenty of hands-on work to do.

Apprentices have real occupations here at Tarmac. Training and development take place both at work and places of study, with our full support along the way. Our apprenticeships last anywhere between one to five years.
