January 31, 2025

Tarmac has been announced as LCRIG‘s official Sustainability Partner for 2025, building on a strong and longstanding relationship that has spanned six years. This exciting new chapter will focus on supporting local authorities in driving impactful progress in sustainability across the wider highways sector.

Emma Hines, Sustainability Director at Tarmac expressed her enthusiasm about the partnership: “We are proud to be LCRIG’s Sustainability Partner for 2025. At Tarmac, we recognise the important role we have in enabling the transition to a sustainable and resilient built environment.

“As one of the UK’s leading construction businesses, we have set ourselves challenging commitments. We also recognise the importance of partnership, collaborative working and supporting our local authority clients on their journey towards a more sustainable future. This means understanding their future requirements and providing the products and services that they will need. We are now working to develop a new generation of low carbon, biogenic and long-life asphalts. This technology will help our clients to reduce carbon footprints, capture carbon and significantly extend pavement life compared to current materials.”

Keely Metcalfe, Relationship Manager at LCRIG shared her excitement: “We’re delighted to be working in collaboration with Tarmac to help drive improvements in sustainability within the highways and transport technology sector. Our commitment to decarbonising the highways sector and facilitating positive change within the community and our members underpins everything that we do. This collaboration will help us to continue to make a difference to the sector.”

Following the publication of Tarmac’s latest Sustainability Report, which focuses on three core themes – People, Planet, and Solutions – Tarmac has demonstrated leadership in championing sustainability within the sector. Throughout 2025, Tarmac and LCRIG will collaborate on a variety of initiatives, with Tarmac also playing a prominent role at LCRIG’s flagship events, including the LCRIG Innovation and Learning Festival and Strictly Highways.

This partnership underscores a shared commitment to empowering local authorities with the tools, knowledge, and innovations needed to tackle pressing sustainability challenges. By working together, Tarmac and LCRIG aim to help, inspire and drive progress towards a more sustainable future.
