Tarmac appointed lead partner of UK National Parks’ biennial conference

September 17, 2019

Today (Tuesday 17 September) marks the start of the UK National Parks Conference, a biennial event that brings together the key decision-makers from across the UK’s 15 National Parks.

The three-day conference is being hosted by the Yorkshire Dales National Park authority and supported by lead partner Tarmac, the UK’s leading sustainable building materials and construction solutions company.

As this is the 70th anniversary year of the 1949 National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act, the conference will celebrate the history of National Parks across the UK. It will also look to the future through the theme of ‘new horizons.’

Stuart Wykes, director of Land and Natural resources at Tarmac, said: “We’re proud to be sponsors of this year’s conference, especially in this celebratory year for the National Parks organisation.

“As a custodian of land across the UK, including within National Parks, close collaboration and support with both with authorities and local communities is really important to us.  We’re looking forward to meeting with delegates and sharing our shared experiences and best practice with visitors to the conference.”

David Butterworth, CEO of the Yorkshire Dales National Parks, added: “We are delighted with Tarmac’s key support of this year’s bi-annual conference, which will see delegates from across the UK debate, plan and share best practice for the future of the national parks.”

Mineral extraction is essential to the UK’s infrastructure pipeline, and Tarmac is committed to careful planning both before and after quarrying operations to ensure sites are managed responsibly and sustainably to conserve and enhance natural habitats, wildlife and cultural heritage. The company focuses on contributing to the economic and social well-being of local communities within national parks and other operations across the UK.

The conference is being held between Tuesday 17 September to Thursday 19 September, with 100 delegates attending including National Parks Chairs and CEOs, representatives from Government and other agencies.
