Tarmac bounces into action with donation towards Coronation Fete

Children attending a Coronation Fete, in Bayston Hill, Shrewsbury, were jumping for joy on the inflatable rides on offer, thanks to a £500 donation from Tarmac.

Based on the popularity of last year’s Jubilee Fete, the Bayston Hill Village Association was keen to organise an event to celebrate the King’s Coronation.

The fete, which took place on 8 May, was scheduled to be held at Glebelands field but had to be relocated to the church hall, due to unfavourable weather on the day. Fortunately, the hired inflatables – which included a bouncy castle and slide – could be moved to the hall.

Paul Pickerill, Trustee of the Bayston Hill Village Association, said: “Last year’s event was very well received and supported by residents, and this year’s was probably just as busy despite the weather. These events really do seem to bring the village together and have kickstarted a few other community projects in the meantime.

“Tarmac’s donation covered the hire of bouncy castle and slide, which meant it was free for the children to use – which went down very well with the parents.”

Ian Knott, operations manager at Tarmac’s Bayston Hill quarry, said: “It’s wonderful that we have been able to contribute to this community event, and that the children had lots of fun on the inflatables. We’re happy to support events like this as we know how important they are in bringing people together and that they can be enjoyed by the local communities.”

The Bayston Hill Village Association plans to continue hosting regular community events in the future.
