Tarmac colleagues turned out in force to celebrate a sunny Birmingham Pride weekend, alongside construction partners from the Balfour Beatty VINCI (BBV) and High Speed 2 (HS2) supply chain.
The annual LGBTQ+ event took place on Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 May, with Tarmac among other BBV and HS2 suppliers supporting a float in the Pride parade. Enjoyed annually by thousands of participants, either walking alongside or aboard decorated floats, the renowned parade is watched by spectators lining the streets of Birmingham.
Sam Dalby, early careers talent manager and co-chair of Tarmac’s LGBTQ+ employee community network, said: “It’s great to see Tarmac collaborating with our partners, BBV and HS2, to support Birmingham Pride this year. It’s a great step forward for our LGBTQ+ community, our inclusion and diversity agenda, and the business.
“We always enjoy getting involved in events like Pride, which promote inclusion for all, and it has been great to celebrate the weekend alongside colleagues from around the business.”
Damon Holmes, HS2 readymix general manager for Tarmac, added: “As a business, we want everyone to feel welcome and that they belong here, so it’s fantastic that as a team we can support this year’s Pride celebrations – an event which truly fosters and celebrates inclusion.
“As part of the team delivering concrete to BBV on the HS2 project, I’m proud that Tarmac is a part of the BBV construction family and helping to create a legacy on the project.”
Pride has become a symbol of solidarity, identity, acceptance, and equality, as well as increasing visibility of the LGBTQ+ community across the globe. This year, Birmingham Pride attracted around 100,000 people into the heart of the city’s LGBTQ+ village across the two-day event.
