Tarmac has hosted its second annual Future Leaders conference bringing together higher apprentices and graduates from across the organisation, as the company continues to support and inspire the next generation of leaders in construction.
More than 120 delegates attended the two-day event, held at Center Parcs in Nottinghamshire with activities ranging from career development stories, knowledge sharing and advice from senior leaders, to team building activities in Sherwood Forest and professional workshops focused on the development of innovative ideas and projects to shape the future of the business.
Tarmac’s senior vice president Martin Riley, who began his journey in the business as an apprentice, shared his story with the aspiring leaders at the event. He said: “It’s been another fantastic and eye-opening event which I’ve been really proud to be involved with. We are fully committed to supporting career development at all levels of Tarmac and it’s been a real pleasure to spend time with our ambitious set of future leaders which fills me with confidence for the continued growth of this business.”
Guest speakers included former Red Arrow, Mike Ling, sharing his insights on high performing teams, stand up comedian and business guru, Neil Mullarkey entertaining attendees with insights on listening skills and team-building and development exercises delivered by Tarmac’s partner SkillForce.
Sustainability graduate Steph Upton-Roddy attended the conference for the first time: “It’s been a really motivational couple of days hearing about the different experiences of colleagues and senior leaders across the business. It feels great that we’re being invested in and supported to take the next step in our careers, and I’m really proud to have been involved.”
Callum Prinn, a higher apprentice in operations management, returned for his second year: “The conference has been a really great reminder of how much I’ve been able to develop with the company’s support over the last year. Being given the responsibility to take on key challenges and projects for the business is another example of how we’re encouraged to be as ambitious as possible and it’s down to us to start leading the way now.”
