Tarmac donation improves car park for Hertfordshire football club

September 21, 2021

A football club in Hertfordshire has been able to improve its facilities thanks to a donation from Tarmac’s Harper Lane site.

Borehamwood 2000 FC contacted Tarmac for a donation to expand its car park when it became apparent that there was not enough space in the old car park for people to park safely and observe social distancing rules.

Tarmac worked with local contractor Elm Surfacing on the project, donating a significant amount of asphalt to create the new car park.

The new car park has allowed training to continue throughout the COVID-19 restrictions as there is now enough space for players and supporters to park safely.

Iain Blackaller, area operations manager at Tarmac, said: “We are pleased to have been able to support grassroots football. Our work in the community is one of our key priorities – as is keeping people safe and healthy. We wish Borehamwood 2000 FC the best of luck with their campaigns in the Hertfordshire girls’ and boys’ junior football leagues.”

David Makamian, Borehamwood 2000 FC club chairman and treasurer, said: “Once lockdown restrictions were eased, we were keen to welcome teams back to the club. We understand the positive benefits that outdoor fitness can have on the mental health and wellbeing of our young players, but despite our best efforts to accommodate our members, space had become an issue.

“We reached out to organisations, like Tarmac, that we thought may help with increasing our parking capacity – the support we received was beyond our expectations. I don’t know what to say, other than the biggest thank you possible.

“Herts Community Fund, Hertsmere Borough and Shenley Parish Council also provided much support, so this project has been a wonderful collaboration between the private and public sectors in support of our local community.”

Giving a player’s perspective, Max, U13 boys captain, said: “We’re so happy with what Tarmac have done for our club, the car park is safe and clean, and there’s loads of room so people don’t have to park up the road anymore and upset our neighbours!”

As a sign of appreciation and thanks for the support, Borehamwood 2000 FC have chosen to use the Tarmac logo on the U18 girls’ kit for the coming season.
