Employees at Tarmac are celebrating the completion of an annual nationwide development programme, which has become a staple of the business’ commitment to developing its people and helping build careers.
The Employee Development Programme (EDP) lasts around seven months, giving colleagues the opportunity to work alongside people from different parts of the company. The EDP is a combination of work-related projects and classroom-based learning modules, which require participants to take part in presentations and finance training for non-finance managers.
Each year the EDP sees around 200 Tarmac employees work in teams to tackle business-related projects on a wide range of industry topics, from improving health and safety to looking at inclusion and diversity.
Graeme Boylen, HR director at Tarmac, said: “Furthering people’s skills is at the very heart of our strategy at Tarmac. It has been great hearing how well the groups have delivered their final presentations following months of hard work. Throughout this period individuals have shared ideas, best practices and seek solutions to business-related topics which will help us make a difference within our industry and provides great opportunities for people to develop themselves and their careers. “
Tracey Foster, key account coordinator and participant in Tarmac’s EDP, added: “Being involved in the EDP scheme has been a great experience and something I’m extremely proud of. The EDP has given me the ability to have an impact on Tarmac and the industry – I’ve really enjoyed the challenge and working with different people throughout the business.”
The programme is a key part of Tarmac’s efforts to support and encourage colleagues at all stages of their careers to build new skills and experiences.
