Tarmac has been shortlisted for five prestigious awards recognising excellence and commitment to innovation and best practice in the highways sector.
The business is in contention for a range of accolades at the national Highways Awards 2019 having been chosen as a finalist in five different categories:
- Environmental Sustainability Award
- Best Use of New Technology Award
- Highways Partnership Award
- Major Project Award
- Product of the Year Award

Tarmac’s collaboration with Skanska, Jackson and Osborne on Connect Plus’ M25 Lifecycle Renewals Framework has been shortlisted in the Highways Partnership Award category for its innovative working model which encourages knowledge sharing.
In the Environmental Sustainability category, Tarmac’s use of ULTIFOAM to recycle tar bound planings has been recognised for its benefits in diverting large quantities of waste material from landfill and reducing carbon emissions.
The business is the first in the UK to harness the power of BPO Asphalt Technology to optimise logistics and boost productivity, putting Tarmac in the running for the Best Use of New Technology award. The software automatically calculates times for mixing, loading and transportation of the asphalt enabling efficient project delivery.
Another shortlisting was secured in the Major Project category for the A50 Growth Corridor project. Working with Highways England and Staffordshire County Council, Tarmac was able to deliver £6.7m in savings on this vital new grade-separated junction scheme to unlock the development of up to 700 homes and increase investment in the region.
Completing the fantastic five, Tarmac’s rubber modified asphalt is a finalist in the Product of the Year category, recognising its potential to provide a sustainable solution for some of the 40 million waste tyres produced by the UK every year.
The Highways Awards winners are set to be revealed at a glamorous ceremony and gala dinner on 9th October at the Lancaster Gate Hotel in London.
