Tarmac launches talent search with apprenticeship recruitment drive

March 7, 2019

Tarmac, the UK’s leading sustainable building materials and construction solutions company, is marking National Apprenticeship Week with the launch of a national recruitment programme for up to eighty new apprentices and higher apprentices.

Forming part of the company’s commitment to developing a diverse, talented and highly-skilled workforce that will support the UK construction industry, Tarmac is recruiting apprentices and higher apprentices to work across its business nationwide. The variety of opportunities available includes roles ranging from highways operatives and mechanical fitters through to laboratory technicians and commercial apprenticeships.

Commenting on the launch of the programme, Martin Riley, senior vice president at Tarmac, said: “Investment in skills and training is key to delivering the UK’s pipeline of major infrastructure, and apprenticeships are vital educational pathways for individuals starting out in our exciting and dynamic industry.

“Having begun my career at Tarmac as an apprentice myself, I know first-hand how these schemes can both offer practical experience and provide people with crucial skills for life.  We have a strong track record of bringing apprentices through our business and remain passionate about creating a lasting skills legacy by providing high-quality training opportunities.”

Lasting between one and four years, each role will see successful candidates develop their specialist knowledge, practical skills and work experience, and include technical on-site coaching with a competitive salary. All recruits will additionally undertake vocational training at a network of leading higher education colleges across the UK.

The launch of this year’s scheme follows Tarmac’s highly successful recruitment drive in 2018, which saw the company take on over 70 apprentices across the country from Scotland to the South West of England.

Tarmac is also a member of the 5% Club, a movement of employers working to provide ‘earn and learn’ skills training and development opportunities to help people onto meaningful career paths.

Now in its twelfth year, National Apprenticeship Week is taking place between 4 and 8 March. This year’s theme, ‘Blaze a Trail’, will see the business community come together to celebrate the impact of apprenticeships on individuals, employers and the economy.
