Tarmac and its suppliers pulled together to install a new car park and access road for Cheshire based children’s charity, The Joshua Tree. Operating across the North West and North Wales, the charity is dedicated to working closely with families affected by childhood cancers.
The Joshua Tree took on a self-funded project to build a new purpose-built support centre for the charity. However, the charity was able to complete the project due to COVID-19 and unable to establish normal fundraising activities to complete the access road and car park to the centre.
After reaching out for support to get a car park installed, Tarmac was able to lend a hand and not only finish the new car park and an access road within two weeks, but also carry out some curbing and drainage works for the charity.
Peter Hyde, highways services director at Tarmac said: “We are delighted we could be of assistance to this fantastic cause. The Joshua Tree is a charity which recognises every family’s cancer journey is unique, and not only works with the children themselves but the whole family too. The overall assistance provided by the charity is truly invaluable, and we are very pleased we were able to provide some support in getting the project completed.
“Even with the setbacks and difficulties of 2020, the team finished the job in record time, not to mention the terrible weather! We’re looking forward to visiting the finalised support centre once guidance allows.”
Helen Ritchie, corporate partnership officer at The Joshua Tree said: “On behalf of everybody at The Joshua Tree, we want to say a massive thank you to Paul Fleetham, contracting managing director at Tarmac and his team for the very generous contribution. The time and effort the team has put in means we now have a functional, safe, and attractive car park for staff and families visiting the support centre to utilise.
“The entire team involved has been incredibly helpful and an absolute pleasure to work with. We cannot wait for our official opening. Rescheduled to later in the year, we would be delighted to see some faces from the Tarmac team at the event.”
