Tarmac sponsors the Buxton Half Marathon

Runners in Buxton, Derbyshire, recently put their best foot forward to take part in the Buxton Half Marathon, sponsored by Tarmac’s Tunstead Quarry.

The event took place on Sunday 29 May, with 334 runners taking part.

The single lap route started at Buxton’s Opera House and took in some of the stunning Peak District countryside before returning and finishing in Buxton’s beautiful Pavilion Gardens.

The event was organised by the Buxton Athletic Club, a community-based, inclusive athletics and running club with around 200 members.

Paul Markall, race director, said: “It was wonderful to see the Buxton Half Marathon return to the town after a 2-year absence. Having the support of Tarmac was important to us at Buxton AC as it helps us raise the profile of our race within the area. Tarmac’s generous sponsorship was so helpful towards the costs of putting on the race. The help and support from Tarmac contributed to what was a fabulous day for Buxton AC and the runners who took part.”

Graham Cooper, lime director at Tarmac’s Tunstead Quarry who started the race, said: “We are proud to have been able to support the Buxton Half Marathon and Buxton Athletic Club with this event. It was great to see so many people turn out, both runners and spectators, in support of the occasion.

“It is important to Tarmac that we support the local community and things that are important to them, so sponsoring an event like this is a fantastic way for us to show that support.”
