Rising star Shahid Zaman, from the UK’s leading sustainable construction solutions business, Tarmac, has been shortlisted in the top 10 Future Leaders category at the prestigious 2022 Ethnicity Awards.
Each year, the Ethnicity Awards celebrate Black, Asian, and Ethnic Minority people who make a positive impact on diversity in the public eye, in politics, and in the workplace. In 2021, entrants received over 50,000 votes across all categories, demonstrating the importance of the awards in pushing the ethnicity agenda.
Starting with the construction company under two years ago, where he was then working as an apprentice operative at Tarmac’s Birmingham Asphalt Plant, in Washwood Heath, he quickly secured the role of supervisor.
Shahid Zaman, supervisor at Tarmac’s Birmingham Asphalt Plant, said: “I’m over the moon to have been nominated for this award. It means so much and makes all the hard work over the last few years one hundred per cent worth it. The other nine candidates and their experience is unbelievable, and I can’t quite believe I’m in the same category!
“I can’t thank my managers enough. The support and guidance I’ve had during my time at Tarmac so far is unmatched. I have big plans for the future, and this really is just the beginning.”

The Ethnicity Awards ceremony is taking place on Thursday 27 October at the Marriott Hotel, London.
