Runners in Buxton, Derbyshire, recently laced up their running shoes to take part in the Buxton Half Marathon, which was supported by Tarmac’s Tunstead Quarry.
The event took place on Sunday 28 May, with 392 runners taking part.
The single lap route started at Buxton’s Opera House and took in some of the stunning Peak District countryside, before returning and finishing in Buxton’s beautiful Pavilion Gardens. The route is a challenging one for runners, with a total ascent of around 1508ft or 460m. The race was started by Richard Lower, Tarmac Tunstead’s procurement manager.

The Buxton Half Marathon is organised by the Buxton Athletic Club, a community-based, inclusive athletics and running club, which has around 200 members.
Paul Markall, race director, said: “The Buxton Half Marathon is renowned for its scenery and hilly route. It attracts runners looking for a challenge in the beautiful Peak District, not just from the local area, but from across the country.
“Having the support of Tarmac is so important to our Club. This year’s donation allowed us to invest in a better-quality technical t-shirt, sporting Tarmac’s logo. This helps us to grow our reputation as a well organised event among participants and provides visibility of Tarmac’s support for such a popular race.”
Peter Butterworth, lime director at Tarmac’s Tunstead Quarry, said: “It is great to have been able to support the Buxton Half Marathon and Buxton Athletic Club again this year.
“It is important to Tarmac that we support the local community and things that are important to them. Being involved in an event like this is a fantastic way for us to show that support.”
