Tarmac has teamed up with a training provider and employment broker to give young people from Glasgow with the opportunity to experience what it is like to work in the construction sector.
The recent visit to Tarmac’s Douglasmuir quarry in Glasgow was organised by TIGERS, a Scottish training provider and employment broker, specialising in the delivery of pre-employment training and modern apprenticeships.
TIGERS gave the group of young people, aged 16 to 24, with a ‘behind the scenes’ quarry visit to showcase Tarmac ‘s work at the quarry, including the opportunity to see aggregates being collected from the quarry, and a live quarry blast.
Tarmac, the UK’s leading sustainable building materials and construction solutions business, will also provide work placements for people selected from those young people who have completed their training with TIGERS.
Derek Johnstone, Employer Engagement Officer, TIGERS, said: “We are excited to be working in partnership with Tarmac. We believe we share the same values and ethos in supporting and inspiring the next generation to develop their infinite potential and we look forward to working together in the future.”
Pat Carlin, area director, Materials – Scotland, Tarmac, added: “I am delighted that we are able to partner with TIGERS and promote the construction sector through this partnership. We are a very inclusive company here at Tarmac, and we’re really excited to be working with TIGERS on this fantastic initiative. We think this programme can really make a real difference to their lives. And I’d love to see some of those participants apply for our apprenticeship programme.”
TIGERS, which is funded by Skills Development Scotland, also provides opportunities to young people with experiences and training in childcare, business administration and mechanics industries.
