Tarmac, the UK’s leading sustainable building materials and construction solutions business, has welcomed new safety guidance for colleagues in the mineral products sector who use machinery.
The guidance – part of a campaign by the Strategic Forum for Health and Safety in the Mineral Products sector – has been launched by the Mineral Products Association and sets out the importance and principles of Lock Out-Tag Out-Try Out (LOTOTO.) The campaign aims to eradicate what is known in the industry as ‘entrapment.’
The new guidance includes a new nine-page ‘Guide to Energy Isolation and LOTOTO’ as well as a recorded webinar. Developed jointly by MPQC and IQ, online training is aimed at supervisors and managers to help them make sure their teams are following correct procedures.
Martin Riley, senior vice president at Tarmac and Strategic Forum partner, said: “The industry has come together through the Forum with the determination of eradicating entrapment from our industry. As partners, we are working collectively to send the powerful message that we all take responsibility to ensure we send our people home safe.”
Focusing on key issues, the Strategic Forum seeks to co-ordinate health and safety across the sector and minimise duplication of effort. Its members include members of the Mineral Products Association (MPA), Mineral Products Qualifications Council (MPQC), Institute of Quarrying (IQ), Quarries National Joint Advisory Committee (QNJAC), British Aggregates Association (BAA) and Unite the Union (Unite).
