October 14, 2024

Tarmac was proud to present its reports on Tarmac’s social impact in Hertfordshire at the Hertfordshire Chamber of Commerce’s Wellbeing Conference, on Friday, 11 October 2024, at the Building Research Establishment (BRE) Innovation Park.

The conference, which focuses on the intersection of physical and mental health with economic, social, and environmental wellbeing, featured Tarmac’s Michael Holloway as a huest speaker.

Tarmac’s sponsorship of this key event underscores the company’s ongoing commitment to driving positive social impact and enhancing community wellbeing across Hertfordshire. As part of its sustainability and community engagement strategy, Tarmac has made a significant social contribution of £4 million to the county, reinforcing its role as a key partner in Hertfordshire’s sustainable future.

Tarmac has contributed £1.16 million towards giving local communities access to green spaces within 500 meters of their homes. This neighbourhood access to nature is considered essential for cultivating positive community wellbeing.

Tarmac Development Manager, Michael Holloway, said the report is a result of the company’s holistic approach to sustainability, which prioritises people, the planet and a purpose.

“Our sponsorship of this key event underscores the company’s ongoing commitment to driving positive social impact and enhancing community wellbeing across Hertfordshire.

“We believe that wellbeing extends beyond the individual to encompass the health of our communities and the environment.

“Tarmac is dedicated to creating spaces and initiatives that support the wellbeing of Hertfordshire’s residents, today and in the future.

“This conference is a great opportunity for us to come together with other members of the community and share our progress, while also giving us all the chance to collaborate further with each other to grow a sustainable Hertfordshire.”

Tarmac has facilitated 5,165 volunteer hours at Panshanger Park in 2023 alone, allowing local people to engage in meaningful activities that benefit both the environment and their own wellbeing.

As part of the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative, Tarmac has planted 17,341 trees in Hertfordshire. These trees are expected to sequester 3,767 tonnes of CO2 over the next 100 years, contributing to the county’s environmental resilience and carbon reduction goals.

The Hertfordshire Chamber of Commerce’s Wellbeing Conference explored how wellness can be supported through both physical and mental health initiatives. The conference addressed the crucial links between individual wellbeing, community resilience, and broader economic and environmental outcomes.
