100 years of cement manufacture and supply means that today Blue Circle cement is recognised for its quality, reliability and trust.

With manufacturing sites across the UK and wider supply capability from Ireland and other CRH businesses Blue Circle Cement offers packed and bulk cementitious materials to support domestic and commercial development. From fencing solutions and offshore wind turbine bases to HS2 and merchant or retail networks we engineer cement solutions – whatever the application requirement.

Cement Quality

Our products are tested at every stage of the manufacturing process to ensure our quality promise. Our UKAS accredited National Laboratory provides technical backup and support for all our customers and the team of scientists and technologists utilise state-of-the-art physical testing equipment and the latest analytical methods to ensure the performance and quality of our cement.
As well as our UKAS accredited National Laboratory each of our manufacturing plants has a lab on site, responsible for rigorous and comprehensive testing schedules. The team monitors incoming materials constituting the raw mix such as quarried materials, alternative fuels and additions. They perform chemical and mineralogical analysis of in-process materials and clinker and conduct in-depth analysis and testing of the finished products.

Our History

1900

1900

Associated Portland Cement Manufacturers Ltd - 24 cement works joined together to manufacture cement.

1911

British Portland Cement Manufacturers Ltd – 35 additional companies joined to expand market share to 80% of the British cement market.

1978

Became known as Blue Circle.

2001

Blue Circle bought by Lafarge.

2012

Lafarge and Tarmac joined together as UK construction business Lafarge Tarmac. Blue Circle being one of the many product brands in the business portfolio.

2015

CRH acquired the joint venture renaming its UK operation Tarmac. The Blue Circle heritage featured in the new business logo.

Today

Today, Blue Circle Cement is the UK’s No1 cement brand widely trusted for reliability, supply assurance and quality.
