Standardised Prescribed Concrete (ST)

Standardised prescribed concretes are the mix designs used to create concretes with pre-defined attributes, such as compressive strength or abrasion resistance. Usually mixed on site, these concretes are defined within BS 8500 and are made in accordance to the quantity of materials required in the British Standard.

ST1 Concrete

What is ST1 concrete?

ST1 or wet lean mix concrete is widely used in general, non-structural projects both commercial and domestic.

Typical Concrete strength: 7.5N/mm2 - 28 days

ST1 concrete applications

  • Kerb or ‘edge’ bedding
  • Haunching and backing
  • Blinding
  • Drainage

ST2 Concrete

What is ST2 concrete?

ST2 concrete is used throughout the construction industry for general and house building applications. The ideal concrete for non-reinforced foundations and slab bases for houses, extensions orangeries or conservatories. It is also widely used as trench-fill, drainage edge bedding, kerbing and patios.

Typical Concrete strength: 10N/mm2 - 28 days

ST2 Concrete Applications

  • Non-reinforced strip footings
  • Fence posts
  • Small domestic use external use bases
  • Pad foundations
  • Fill
  • Trench fill
  • Drainage
  • Internal floor – blinding

ST3 Concrete

What is ST3 concrete?

ST3 is the perfect concrete for domestic applications and foundations. It is widely used in internal floor slabs.

Typical Concrete strength: 15N/mm2 - 28 days

ST3 Concrete Applications

  • Bases
  • Foundations for patios, orangeries, walls, garages, houses and extensions
  • Paving for patios
  • Non-reinforced bases and oversites

ST4 Concrete

What is ST4 concrete?

ST4 concrete is one of the wettest ST mixes. This means the consistency of the mix is extremely fluid. It is a popular concrete mix used throughout lightweight commercial and domestic projects agriculture and industrial applications.

Typical Concrete strength: 20N/mm2 - 28 days

ST4 Concrete Applications

  • Bedding
  • Garages
  • Bases for sheds and workshops
  • Floor slabs

ST5 Concrete

What is ST5 concrete?

ST5 is used mainly for structural and support beams, roadworks & agricultural applications. It is also popular in external paving and floor slab construction.

Typical Concrete strength: 25N/mm2 - 28 days

ST5 Concrete Applications

  • Kennels, stables
  • Agricultural equipment stores
  • Signage posts for highways
  • Slabs
  • External paving base
