Tarmac donate new kit to Trefil RFC

November 20, 2019

In the spirit of this year’s Rugby World Cup, Tarmac has sponsored a team of budding young rugby stars from Gwent with a new playing kit.

After a long association with the village of Trefil in Blaenau Gwent, Tarmac, the UK’s leading sustainable building materials and construction solutions company, was approached about sponsoring Trefil RFC under-sevens with their brand-new kit.

The village lies at the top of the Sirhowy Valley, three miles northwest of Tredegar and the boundary of the Brecon Beacons National Park lies just one mile north to the village. Tarmac’s Tredegar concrete plant is situated in the heart of Trefil and at 409 metres above sea level is recognised as the highest village in Wales.

Trefil RFC under-sevens is a brand-new team formed this year for the 2019/2020 season. Team coach Matthew Harley said: “We were thrilled when Tarmac agreed to sponsor the team and the children absolutely love the new kit.”

Lee Palin, field sales manager, Readymix, who is based at the Tarmac concrete plant, added: “It’s a pleasure to be able to support the local community in which we operate. The team looked great wearing the new kit to play their first game recently despite the predictable wet weather. Good luck for the rest of the season and hopefully we will get to see some of these budding rugby players in a Wales jersey a few years down the line.”
