As part of the exhibition, Tarmac, the UK’s leading sustainable building materials and construction solutions company is sponsoring the Civils and Materials Dome.

Throughout the two days there will be guest speakers from the company discussing innovation, sustainability, health and safety, Silverstone and more.

The speakers from Tarmac will be –

Day One

11.15-11.40

Innovation and sustainability – how innovation can help to reduce the carbon footprint of asphalt.

Brian Kent, National Technical Director, Tarmac

13.35-14.00

Silverstone Case Study

Tim Smith, Contracting Technical Lead, Tarmac

Day Two

13.00-13.20

Developments in road applications of cement bound granular materials (CBGM)

The use of cement bound base in flexible composite pavements has a long history in the UK. This presentation will give a brief overview of both the mixtures and the design philosophy behind flexible composite pavements, before going into more detail around how the UK is about to introduce a new class of cement bound base following extensive oversees research and development. Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) has higher strength and requires a thinner asphalt overlay compared to traditional HBMs. It also has the ability to be laid as a running surface on off highway industrial pavements so is an unusually versatile inflexible material.

David Markham, Senior Manager Asphalt Technology, and Ian Carr, Technical Manager, Tarmac
