Tarmac is set to exhibit at the Highways UK exhibition at the NEC in Birmingham on Wednesday 6 November and Thursday 7 November on stand H30 in Hall 9.

With activities centred around the road network, motorways, local authority roads and urban networks, Highways UK provides businesses with an opportunity to network and learn best practices from other industry experts.

Developments in road applications of cement bound granular materials (CBGM)
The use of cement bound base in flexible composite pavements has a long history in the UK. This presentation will give a brief overview of both the mixtures and the design philosophy behind flexible composite pavements, before going into more detail around how the UK is about to introduce a new class of cement bound base following extensive oversees research and development. Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) has higher strength and requires a thinner asphalt overlay compared to traditional HBMs. It also has the ability to be laid as a running surface on off highway industrial pavements so is an unusually versatile inflexible material.
